Snel's Biography
Bali was tantalizing
the senses
of Western
artists as
far back as
the late 1920s.
Since that
time, several
have tried
to capture
its gentle
beauty in
their work.
Han Snel is
one of the
last Dutch-born
painters who,
smitten by
the very soul
of the island,
has been paying
tribute to
the Balinese
woman for
the past forty
years in his
romantic realist
works.
Today, in
a new journey
of discovery
into form
and colour,
he has immersed
himself in
the world
of abstract
art. One of
the island's
most significant
painters,
his life story
is inextricably
linked with
the history
of art in
